Subagent

A specialized AI worker that Claude delegates tasks to within a Claude Code session. The subagent runs in its own context window with specific tool access and instructions, does its work, and returns a summary to the main conversation. Built-in subagent types include Explore (read-only codebase research), Plan (research for planning phases), and General-purpose (full read-write capability). You can also create custom subagents tailored to specific recurring work. Subagents keep the main conversation clean by handling the detailed, exploratory work elsewhere.
